Cardinal students hold prom for classmate

Cardinal student Hannah Sedore gets her hair done for "dress up" day, which was actually a rouse for a surprise prom for her.

Students at Cardinal High School in Eldon held a prom for a student who is unable to attend the event due to surgery.

When Hannah Sedore, who is also mentally disabled, told students she would not attend her junior prom, that's when they decided to take prom to her.

Freshman Taylor Franklin, who became friends with Sedore while riding the bus to and from school, started the idea. Franklin along with Breanna Hornbeck contacted school officials with their idea to create a surprise prom.

The girls were able to keep the surprise a secret for three weeks, telling Sedore the school was having a "dress up" day. While Sedore was getting her hair done, students filled the gym.

As Sedore made her way to the gym, the lights were turned off, and students clapped and cheered for her as she was given a corsage and given an explanation as to what was really going on.

After the news set in, she was treated to the first dance from Superintendent Joel Pederson, followed by a line of guys.

Students joined the festivities dancing to the Electric Slide and creating a large train for Sedore to run under.
