Cargill Meat Solutions held a job fair at Ottumwa's Bridge View Center Wednesday; testing, meeting and interviewing potential employees on the spot.
This was the second job fair Cargill has done; the last one in August had such a great turnout, they decided to hold another looking for candidates to fill about 40 jobs in production and maintenance. The fair is not only a good opportunity for the applicants, but for the company to involve itself in the community.
"We promote the company, basically, and we also like to be involved in the community in a way, so it gives us the chance to talk to people about what we're looking for, our benefits, a little bit of general information about the plant, what we do as a business," said Melinda Figueroa, Recruitment and Hiring Manager for Cargill. "Because we are bigger than just being here in Ottumwa, we're a multi-national company, so it gives them also that broad sense of what we do as a company in general all over the world."
Experience in a production factory, food service or industry maintenance is a plus, but Cargill is looking for anyone with interest in the company.
Figueroa said the turnout for Wednesday's fair was already steady by the early afternoon hours.
