Chamber golf classic brings out the best in the community

The 71st annual Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic took place Friday at the Ottumwa Country Club. The classic is sponsored by Ottumwa Regional Health Center and other local businesses.

This year, 38 teams, totaling 152 golfers participated.

The event helps fund the chamber and its projects throughout the year.

â??You know, the Ottumwa Chamber survives on our membership and our fundraising. So this is a very important event to us and it helps us do all the things that we do throughout the year. It is very important, and we have had a very successful 12 months at the chamber. Weâ??ve got some great accomplishments, some great numbers, and we are heading into our new fiscal year and we are going to do the same thing this year. We are going to keep pressing forward and doing good things for the community,â?? said Terry McNitt, Executive Director of the Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce.

The money raised from the event covers the cost of keeping the chamber in operation.

â??The money we raised here goes toward administration, it goes toward payroll, it goes toward ads to bring people into town and it goes toward all the things that it takes to function the chamber. It goes toward advertising for our events and our business mixers. It supports all the things we need to do to support our members to serve the community,â?? McNitt said.
