It was an open house at the Kirksville Child Development Center (KCDC).
The open house was an effort to get the word out about their facility, and the start of enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year.
The KCDC is unlike any other preschool in the area, it's a parent-cooperative pre-school so there's a lot of parental involvement with the children.
The instructor's stress the importance of play and learning through play.
"I fell like we really give them a change to develop their sense of self and who they are and we do a lot with conflict resolution between themselves because we're a mixed age classroom," said Cheryl Dorrel, KCDC Board President. "They interact with children 2-5 and there's a lot of social experience they gain from that."
Instructors tell me they try to let the children lead the way while they simply follow. The facility goes by the philosophy: if its not in your hands, it can't be in your brain.
