Christian school adds new grade level to roster

After having an interest and working hard to make sure it happens, parents and students are looking forward to the expansion of Faith Lutheran School.

The school currently serves students in preschool through 5th grade, including a full daycare. However, starting next school year they will be expanding their grade level offerings to include 6th grade.

"We have a lot of interest in it an there's been some fundraising going on, so we're really looking forward to it," said Janie Fouch, Faith Lutheran School director.

Fouch told us a big group of parents wrote to the school board a couple months ago, showing their interest in wanting their children to move on within the facility. She said that's when the school board laid out their guidelines and worked diligently to make sure it happens.

Faith Lutheran is already strong at enrichment, so this expansion will only add to their unique areas of advancement. The school features small class sizes and blended classrooms where two grade levels are taught in the same room, while students stay with the same teacher for two or more years.

Fifth grader Caleb Falin said he's excited for the expansion and glad to stay in the school he's been going to all his life.

"The teachers here actually care about you, they just don't teach you to get paid," said Flain.

Ian Snider is also a 5th grader and he told us his favorite subject is science because he likes building things. And building friendships are what 3rd grader Caleb Hashe is looking forward to.

"Better friends and to learn more about Jesus and other people in the Bible," said Hashe

"I've learned about God more and I've learned about friendships and that's really important to me," said 5th grader Faith Hettinger.

Fouch told us the school's unique teaching environment will give students a little bit more individual attention and open many windows or opportunity.

"We just have a lot to offer, as a private Christian school, not only do we have very accelerated academics and of course the Christian aspect of it, but we are also able to offer Spanish and art," said Fouch.

The school also offers music classes taught by a Truman State University instructor and band classes will also be offered.

Teachers believe the expansion will give students a well rounded education.
