The Ottumwa Municipal Band wrapped up its 149th season with a "Christmas in July" themed concert Thursday evening.
People brought their lawn chairs to Ottumwa's Central Park to hear the sweet sounds of the band play Christmas songs, and they wrapped up with a finale of "America the Beautiful." Every Thursday's production had a different theme, with various musicians and vocalists performing each week. Band members say it's been a wonderful run this year.
â??We had a super season,â?? tuba player Greg Hendrickson said. â??We had good luck with the weather every Thursday night this summer, and the clouds gave us cover from the heat of the sun. It's been a wonderful summer, and we're sad to see it come to a close, but we're already looking forward to next summer.â??
Hendrickson has been playing the tuba for 14 seasons. The Ottumwa Municipal Band is the longest running municipal band in the state of Iowa. Members will begin practicing for their 150th season in may of next year.
