City of Kirksville continues work to hire parks and rec director
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
One Heartland city is continuing its search to find a parks and recreation director.
Kirksville city staffers initially hoped to have a director hired by the end of September.
However, that search did not pan out as expected.
As a result, the city re-posted the job opening.
Kirksville Assistant City Manager Ashley Young says that during this search, over 70 people applied.
He says the number of applicants were then whittled down to five.
Young adds that the next step in the search for a director will begin in the coming weeks.
"There will be telephone interviews scheduled and they will be meeting with our community partners in parks and recreation. These candidates will be making presentations and then hopefully, we will have a decision on the parks and recreation director for the city relatively soon."
For this search, the city utilized a new method in order to get word out on the opening.
The job was advertised on job sites such as Monster and Indeed.
