City of Kirksville holding summer block parties in city parks

The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department is doing something new this summer. It will be holding four summer block parties.

Those parties will be held in different city parks. Those include Jaycee, P.C. Mills and Brashear Parks.

There'll be activities for all ages to enjoy, including crafts and music. Best of all, it's free to the public.

"Heather and Robin just wanted some type of event to get people out and active. The second block party is a Summer Olympic Block Party. I want people to get people active and out in the community and support it which I think is a huge deal," said Recreation Assistant Courtney Pierce.

The first block party will be held this coming saturday evening at Kirksville's Memorial Park from 6 to 8. This one is garden-themed. Pots, seeds, soil and produce for this event have been donated by Mark Slaughter. he's the owner of Lil' Beebs Produce in La Plata.

The next block parties are set for June 21, July 19 and August 2.
