City of Kirksville to celebrate National Police Week
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
Next week, area citizens will be encouraged to thank their local police force.
Congress and the President of the United States have dubbed Sunday, May 14, as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
In addition, May 14 is the start of National Police Week.
During their meeting on Monday, Kirksville council members will issue a proclamation.
They will call upon all citizens of Kirksville as well as civic and educational organizations to observe and honor those that work in law enforcement.
Members of the Kirksville Police Department unceasingly provide a vital public service.
City documents state it's important to honor law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, or have become disabled in the performance of duty.
The week will also allow those to commemorate officers past and present, who have worked to protect all citizens.
National Police Week will run from May 14 to May 20.
