Community gathers to learn about Market on Main

Market on Main Committee members hope to have this community space opened in Spring, 2014

Itâ??s called Soup and Scoop and itâ??s put on by Main Street Ottumwa. And Tuesday night was the first one in Ottumwa held at the KMGO building.

Community members are invited the second Tuesday of each month to get the latest scoop on an ongoing community effort or project, as well as a soup dinner.

And Tuesday night it was all about Market on Main, which will be located across the street from the KMGO building in the heart of downtown Ottumwa.

â??We have incubators that we are going to have. We also want to have commercial kitchens and teaching kitchens to help us learn more about local foods and how to use them and why it's important to buy local. We're trying to let everyone know that this is a project that's going forward and how important it is to contribute to our community,â?? said Dianne Haas, Intra-Market Director for Market on Main.

One of the goals of the Marketplace is to be a place where local producers can sell their products.

Those on the Market on Main Committee have a goal of April, 2014 of opening its doors the outdoor/indoor marketplace.
