Community helps open house of hope for women

A couple from Kirksville opened the first Genesis House in Wisconsin and wanted to open one closer to home.

A Heartland ministry is reaching out to young women with unplanned pregnancies.

Genesis House is a program established to provide a Christ-centered family setting for both the mother and the child.

A couple from Kirksville opened the first Genesis House in Wisconsin and wanted to open one closer to home.

The home is in Edina and will soon be opening its doors granting physical, emotional and spiritual needs to women, while receiving guidance and empowerment for their future.

Jacki Kline, a member of the Genesis House board of directors tells us the women are coming into a family, not an institution.

"There really was a need in our community, maybe not a huge one like you have in a big city, but yet women who found themselves in that situation for whatever reason that they didn't have a place to stay and were in an unplanned pregnancy and needed extra support," Kline said.

Each room in the home was adopted by various organizations and ministries across northeast Missouri.

There are three bedrooms in the home and each mother or soon-to-be mother will have a warm and cozy place for themself and their child.

"Our goal is in this program is to try and help them to change their lives while they are here," Kline said.

Right now the Genesis House board of directors is not sure the exact date they will open their doors, however they do say it will in the near future.

The Genesis House ministry will be hosting a fundraising banquet Saturday, April 6, 2013.
