More good financial news for Ottumwa's upcoming Market on Main Street Project.
On Wednesday, Congressman Dave Loebsack announced a $62,676 dollar grant for the indoor farmers market underway in the 300 block of E. Main St. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Enterprise Grant Program. The funds will be used to provide technical assistance for family farmers and other business development assistance.
â??I think this particular project is gonna be a great example of private and public funding,â?? Congressman Loebsack said, â??and that's gonna help bring economic growth to Ottumwa, so I'm looking forward to visiting it when it's remodeled.â??
Loebsack says he saw the facility when he was in Ottumwa earlier this week, and he thinks Market on Main is a great idea. Over half the funding comes from local businesses and community donors, including a $350,000 grant from the Legacy Foundation, a $175,000 grant from John Deere, and a $100,000 grant from South Ottumwa Savings Bank.
