Itâ??s a project that has been up for discussion for several years now: a trails system in Monroe County.
And Tuesday in Albia, Congressman Dave Loebsack met with those on the Monroe Trails Committee and other members of the community to discuss just that.
The Congressman has helped other counties find funding in the past for their trail systems and residents wanted advice on how to get started.
â??Well thereâ??s funding in the Transportation Bill that was passed that's limited because we got this fiscal issue as you know in Washington D.C. and in the country, we've got these deficits we got to control so we've got to be very careful about where we spend the money and do it strategically and do it where we can in fact have economic development and where jobs can be created,â?? said Congressman Loebsack.
â??So we're just trying to see if the Congressman can help us out at all on a direction to go to assist us in getting some funding to incorporate in our community,â?? said Tim Shehan, Trails Committee.
Several years ago, there was a trail donated to the community that is only a half mile up and half mile back. Shehan said that trail is used all the time, but he would like to see more trails for residents to use.
