Conservation Dept. closes offices, cuts jobs

The Missouri Department of Conservation is slashing jobs and expenses.The cuts will save the department 9.5 million dollars each year.173 positions are being cut or unfilled around the state, including ten locally.Thirteen offices are being shutdown, including the Long Branch Lake office in Macon County.The Missouri Department of Conservation TMs Assistant Director Tim Ripperger visited Kirksville on Wednesday for a special meeting.He was careful not to use the word layoffs. The idea is these positions are going to be vacated. We TMre going to do everything we can to make sure they have other opportunities within our agency, Ripperger said.When asked for more specific information about who is losing their jobs, Ripperger said he couldn TMt elaborate on personnel issues.
