The Missouri Department of Conservation hosted a Conservation Keepers program early Saturday. The "Meet a Tree" nature trail began with a short classroom discussion on identifying trees and ended with a hands-on forest exploration. Naturalist Amanda Moore says she wanted those attending to understand the importance of shape, seeds and other details when identifying Missouri trees.
??I think that they did pick up quite a bit. It takes a lot of practice to really be able to recognize all of those little parts, but we also went through some short cuts for identification of some of the more common trees,?? said Moore.
The Discover Nature programs take place once a month at the Missouri Department of Conservation in Kirksville. These programs provide expert instruction and hands-on activities for those interested. There is no registration required and entry is free for all ages. For more information, click here.
