Construction Delayed for month at Market Street Bridge

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 21:06:17 GMT — After a month where crews were unable to complete any work on the Market Street Bridge, the city of Ottumwa says it will likely be another month before work will start again. The delay is caused by high water levels on the Des Moines River, and although the city allowed for up to 30 days of bad weather, they did not anticipate delays like this. "The current river levels are above the causeway and they have to have that causeway to run their equipment on and do anything from beam placement, to finish the cap, to pier widening, all depends on the river level," said Ottumwa Public Works Director Larry Seals. The extreme delay does not impact the budget or the work has been completed already.
