Convicted sex offender denied probation

Daniel Coy denied probation

A Heartland man, who pleaded guilty to a sex related felony, is now headed to prison.

Daniel Coy, 44, of Kirksville, entered the guilty plea to one count of child molestation in December. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to spend 120 days in the Department of Corrections Sex Offender Treatment Unit. Following his time in the unit, Judge Russell Steel denied probation and ordered Coy to serve the seven year sentence.

Coy was charged in connection with an incident involving a 13-year-old boy. Coy was charged with touching the boy inappropriately and then attempting to get the boy to touch him as well.

Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson had asked for a 10 year sentence before the judge decided on seven.
