Coroner: Kirksville attorney shot seven times by husband
The weekend deaths of a Kirksville attorney and her husband are now a confirmed murder/suicide.
The preliminary autopsy results just came back Tuesday evening from the State Medical Examiner's Office.
Adair County Coroner Brian Noe told KTVO that Kadie Campbell Johnson, 33, died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Noe said Riley Johnson, 36, murdered his wife by shooting her seven times with a .22-caliber handgun in the garage of the couple's home on Burk Trail just south of Kirksville.
The coroner said Riley Johnson then shot himself in the head with another handgun in a hallway just off the garage.
Riley died from that single gunshot wound.
Noe said it will be several weeks before the toxicology results are back.
The shootings happened right around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
The circumstances that led up to the murder/suicide are still under investigation.
Two other adults and the Johnsons' three young boys were home at the time of the shootings, but they were not harmed.
Mrs. Johnson owned and operated The Law Offices of Kadie Campbell Johnson in Kirksville.
