Council approves increase for boat fees

The Kirksville City Council is trying to maintain a dedicated police patrol at Forest Lake. After looking at funding and budget issues, the council has decided to raise boat registration fees. The fees have not been increased since 1997.
â??During the budget process, the staff needed to make some cuts to the budget in order to balance it. One of these cuts was the removal of some of the expenses to allow us to have the boat patrol on Forest Lake. We have to pay for a motor and other things. So we cut that out of the budget, we then went back to the council,â?? said Mari Macomber, Kirksville City Manager.We have posted the rates that have been approved by the council and will go into effect immediately.For annual registrations:
Motors and boats with 0 to 20 hp will go from $10 to $15Motors and boats with 21 to 40 hp will go from $15 to $25Motors and boats with 41 to 65 hp will go from $20 to $35Motors and boats with 66 to 90 hp will go from $25 to $45
For day permits:
Motors and boats with 0 to 20 hp will go from $2 to $3Motors and boats with 21 to 40 hp will go from $3 to $5Motors and boats with 41 to 65 hp will go from $4 to $7Motors and boats with 66 to 90 hp will go from $5 to $9
