Council may name top cop this week

The City of Bridges will be well on its way to having a new top cop by the end of the week.

The City Council will hold two special meetings this week.

On Thursday, council members will hold a meet-and-greet with each of the three finalists, Ottumwa Interim Chief Tom McAndrew, Jeff Jirak of Wilton and Lawrence McNaul of Grinnell.

That meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers.

On Friday, the council will convene at 1 p.m. and immediately go into closed session to formally interview the three candidates.

According to the agenda for that meeting, the council will then return to open session for action to appoint the preferred candidate.
