The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure kicks off in Ottumwa in just a matter of days.
Next Saturday, May 11, Ottumwa Park will be filled with thousands of walkers and runners. Cancer sits very close to the heart of Jim Streeby, who is the Honorary Chair for the event. A cancer survivor himself, but sadly lost his wife to pancreatic cancer. He been an avid runner most of his life and encourages people to participate in Race for the Cure, not only to raise money for cancer, but to also help you through all of life??s obstacles.
??I'm used to the discomfort,?? Streeby said. ??My oncologist says I'm the only patient that she knows of who runs the days they get chemo.??
If you??re interested in participating in the event, it??s not too late to sign up. You can register for Race for the Cure or make a donation by visiting http://KomenSoutheastIowa.org.
