Country poet John Pisarik shared some of his poems and songs with an audience at the Ottumwa Public Library on Tuesday

Heâ??s called a country poet. Originally from the Mt. Vernon area, John Pisarik now lives in Floris.

Heâ??s been writing poetry for the past 15 years and started writing cowboy poetry 10 years ago.

On Tuesday, The Reminisce Society brought Pisarik to the Ottumwa Public Library to share his poetry with others.

â??Well I love the crowds. I really feel like this area is so friendly and the farming community is way accepting and they understand -- we just kind of relate to each other and that's fun,â?? said Pisarik.

Pisarik said he does most of his writing out on the road. He started traveling around southeast Iowa sharing his passion with others.

He said he believes the people in this area have a thirst for this type of entertainment because of the farming community.
