County seeks way to legally ban burning

Occasionally, citizens are advised not to burn anything outside, but soon that might change. The Adair County Commissioners, local fire departments and the Missouri Conservation Department are discussing an ordinance to invoke a burn ban.

â??Now we can put some teeth into an ordinance that we're putting together in not only Adair County, but the surrounding counties,â?? said Adair County Commissioner Mark Thompson. â??We're working together to come up with an ordinance that puts some teeth into preventing fires.â??

Recently, the State of Missouri passed legislation that allows a county to establish a burn ban legally.

Commissioner Thompson said they are still working on an ordinance that will satisfy both their needs and the state fire marshal.

A burn ban is usually issued when there are extremely hot and dry conditions outside.
