Heartland students got a special treat while learning about an important Missouri wildlife animal.

At the Missouri Department of Conservation Office in Kirksville Wednesday, kids got to learn about beavers during the Creature Feature Program. They learned about how they use their teeth to go through wood and how they can live both in water and on land using their paddle tails, ears, nose, dry and warm fur. The kids even got a visit from special guest "Justin Beaver" himself.

"I want to teach people how to respect my fellow beavers. Everyone thinks beavers are pests, but that's not true. We help shape the landscape. We keep the marshes up healthy and active. We even impact how the forest thrive," Beaver said.

Beaver and Conservation Official Amanda Moore even performed for the kids to help bring some fun and laughter to the session.

There will be another Creature Feature session coming up in two weeks.
