Crews respond to suspicious vehicle fire

Officials on the scene said they are classifying the fire as suspicious.

UPDATE: We have now learned new information about a pickup truck set on fire northeast of Kirksville Tuesday afternoon.

The call first came in as a report of a fiery rollover crash on New Hope Way.

The Adair County Sheriff's Office and county fire crews rushed to the scene and found the truck fully engulfed in flames.

Sheriff Robert Hardwick told KTVO the investigation revealed the pickup had been reported stolen from Schuyler County earlier in the afternoon.

Schuyler County Sheriff Josh Dole said the truck was stolen from a driveway in Queen City while the owners were away at work.

No one is sure exactly when it was taken.

Dole says it was stolen sometime between 5:30 a.m. and mid-afternoon Tuesday.

The thief had backed the pickup into a clearing in a brushy area along New Hope Way and set it on fire.

Dole said an investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was at the scene and also at the impound lot where the truck was taken to look for evidence.

If you have any information about the fire or suspicious activity in the area where the truck was found or in Queen City where the pickup was stolen, you're encouraged to contact the Adair or Schuyler County Sheriff's Office.
