Curbside trash collection postponed for Christmas holiday

Curbside trash and recycling collection that would normally take place in Ottumwa on Wednesdays will be postponed until Thursday, December 26 due to the Christmas holiday.
North and south-side bulky item pick-up both will still be Tuesday December 24. Bulky items you want to be picked up needed to be called in by 4 p.m. Monday. Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers says trash collectors will begin pick-up at 4 a.m. on Thursday.
â??This time of year the weather can throw a wrench into things as far as trash collection goes,â?? Rodgers said. â??Adverse weather slows down the collection, so if you get missed, very often they'll come back the next day with collection. We had a situation last week with the icy conditions and they were unable to complete a route, so if they don't make it due to weather conditions, don't be too surprised. Just leave the items out, and they'll get them picked up.â??
A number of city departments and offices will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and will reopen to the public on Thursday.
