Davis County athletes raise $10k for boy with cancer
BLOOMFIELD, Iowa —
An Ottumwa family in the fight against cancer gave away $10,000 last year, and got $10,000 in return this year.
Trevor Stromgren, 8, has battled cancer for most of his life. His family started a Team Trevor campaign to raise money for other children with cancer. Their can drive brought in nearly $10,000, which was distributed to those families.
The Stromgrens needed the same kindness in return, and that's what they received over the weekend.
In November, Trevor was diagnosed with cancer for the third time. Since then, he's been through three rounds of chemotherapy.
Davis County basketball teams wanted to help, so the players organized a fundraiser that brought in almost $10,000 during the JV games on Saturday.
"Without their help, we'd be hurting,” said Trevor’s father, Brian Stromgren. “We're all one family as far as I’m concerned and we appreciated it."
If you would like to help this family, cans are still being accepted at trailers at 2304 West Second Street and Richmond Avenue across from Casey’s in Ottumwa.
