The Davis County School District has named their new superintendent, and he's a familiar face in Southeast Iowa education.
Dan Maeder has been the principal at Evans Middle School in Ottumwa for five years. Before that, he served as a principal at Pekin and Tri County, and taught at Evans, Sigourney and North Mahaska.
Maeder said the first steps will be to build community relationships and establish the district's goals.
"My job will be to make sure that our vision does align with where we need to be going as an education program in Davis County and making sure that what our efforts do match what our community goals and values are," he said.
Maeder also said that he will take what heâ??s learned from his time in education and apply it to the new position.
â??I know that Davis County has always been a very progressive community,â?? he said. â??I know that their education system is terrific and so I'm sure that their goals and their vision is very similar to ours here in Ottumwa, so I'm pretty confident that it will be a fairly seamless transition and something I'm really looking forward to.â??
Leaving Ottumwa will be bittersweet, but Maeder said he is looking forward to working with a great staff and community.
