Davis County Old Time Music Festival kicks off Wednesday night

If you like country, folk or bluegrass music, or anything in between, the Davis County Fairgrounds is the place to be this weekend.

The 42nd Annual Old Time Music Festival officially kicks off at 7 p.m. Wednesday night with the Stump the Band event at the Veatch Stage on the fairgrounds. There were already over 100 campers parked on site and a few bands playing Wednesday afternoon gearing up for the event.

All the bands that play over the course of the festival are non-paid bands and there are three stages where you can hear the music: the Veatch Stage, Main Stage and Ryman Stage. Organizers sent out over 400 fliers promoting the event to people in states ranging from Iowa and Missouri to Minnesota, Texas and Kansas.

Darin Manson, of the Old Time Music Festival Committee, said the best part of the event is that it truly is a "people's festival" that attracts those visitors from across the country.

"You know, I think it's the good fellowship that we have here and the idea that it is not a big, commercialized event," Manson said. "It's for the people."

The festival is free and is entirely run by volunteers. Any free-will donations collected over the long weekend will go back towards maintenance and upkeep of the fairgrounds.

New this year, instrument workshops will allow kids and adults of all skill levels to learn from and practice with some of the veterans.
