Day one of Bike Van Buren proves to be a success
The 27th Bike Van Buren annual cycling event kicked off Saturday morning.
People who registered could choose between an 18 mile, 29 mile, 34 mile or even 70 mile route. The terrain varied on each of the courses based on the level of difficulty riders were willing to endure. When bikers completed their challenge for the day, many stopped by the Keosauqua Fire House for a home-cooked meal made by all the firefighters. Here a free-will donation was collected to help the department cover their operating expenses. Fire Chief Noah Harlan says he's very pleased with the turnout this year.
â??It's been great, yeah. Weâ??ve had a lot of local support, plus all the bikes. Well you can see all the bikers that are here. We've had a lot of support this year. It's been really good,â?? he said.
The Keosauqua Lions Club also raffled off a brand new Trek road bike to one lucky winner.
