Many area hunters are counting down the hours until the start of Missouri's fall firearms deer season which starts bright and early Saturday. The firearms portion of the season runs through November 26th. The popular season draws hundreds of hunters to northeast Missouri.
The Missouri Conservation Department encourages all hunters to be safe by wearing a blaze orange cap and shirt.
Conservation officer Marsha Jones is looking forward to the opening. "Hunting is a huge sport across the United States and Canada and we get folks from all over who want to come and harvest and eastern wild turkey or white tail deer," said Jones.
Just a reminder from the Conservation Department to be safe out there. Economic officials say the dollar-and-cents impact of deer season is important to the local economy.
