An Oskaloosa man charged with murder in the death of an infant won't stand trial until next year.
Bryan Draper Vilcone, 24, was scheduled to be in a Mahaska County courtroom on December 3 to face a first degree murder charged in the death of 7-week-old Raelynn M. Hart.
Iowa online court records indicate that at a hearing on Monday, District Judge Annette Scieszinski continued that trial until early March. The record indicates the court is anticipating a trial that will last roughly 11 days.
Vilcone was arrested in April of this year after emergency personnel responded to a call from a Mahaska County hospital.
When responders arrived, they found Hart suffering from severe injuries. Hart's mother told investigators the child had been in the care of Vilcone, whom she described as a family friend.
Raelynn died a few days later at a Des Moines hospital.
Vilcone has remained in custody since his arrest on a $500,000 bond.Previous stories...Oskaloosa man enters plea in death of infant
