Disability Day Conference made possible by local charity

A check from the Dash for disABILITIES was presented Friday.

October is National Disability Employment Month, and Disabiltiy History Month in the state of Missouri.

Kirksville's fifth annual Disability Day Conference will kick the month off with a variety of informational sessions and speakers.

The conference would not be possible without the support of the community and one fundraiser in particular, the Dash for disABILITIES.

The first dash was held in July and raised over $1,100 for this year's conference.

Race organizers met with members of the People First Advocacy group to present the check today.

Members are all very greatful for the support from the kirksville community.

"I think it can only be done in a small community like this because, you know, small communities have big hearts," said Chuck Comstock, advisor for People First.

The People First Group will also have a bake sale at the Downtown Farmer's Market Saturday. All proceeds from the bake sale will also go towards the Disability Day Conference.
