Every year, communicable diseases are becoming more evident, that's why there are state immunization requirements in Missouri.
For the 2013-2014 school year each kindergarten student will need certain shots in order to attend school the next school year.
We spoke with the health services director for the Kirksville R-III School District about what shots are needed.
"They all have to have a least four DTaPs, and the fourth one has to be on or after age 4, before they start kindergarten at age 5," said Jane Wheeler an RN, BSN and Health Services Director with Kirksville R-III schools. "Then they have to have two MMRs, the first one has to be after they turn one, and the second one later before they start kindergarten, and then polio. They have to have three plus for that and that last one also has to be after they turn 4."
Your child may get their immunization shots at your family physician's office or the Adair County Health Department.
