Downtown Kirksville is getting more festive for the Christmas holiday.

This week, the Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee, along with help from students from A.T. Still University, is holding their annual Christmas Window Decorating Contest.

About 40 businesses have a variety of Christmas decorations up on their windows to give shoppers or passersby a chance to see how Kirksville gets ready for the season.

"They're just ready for the holidays and they want people to come in and take a look at the things they can provide, look at the window and make the downtown look festive," said Justin Tallman, President of the Kirksville Downtown Committee.

The windows will be judged based on creativity, beauty and theme.

The winners will be announced this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Adair County Courthouse. There will also be train rides on the courthouse lawn and Santa will be there from 2 to 4 p.m.

It will all wrap up at 5 p.m. with Community Christmas Dinner at the Truman State University Student Union Building.
