Driver loses control of truck and camper
Two people are in the hospital Wednesday after an accident on Highway 34.
It was around 1 p.m. when a pickup truck pulling a camper westbound on Highway 34 on the four-lane turned over.
At the scene were the Iowa State Patrol, Wapello County Sheriffâ??s Office, Wapello County Rural Fire Department and paramedics.
â??The male driver went off to pass a vehicle on the inside lane, went too far over onto the shoulder, started fishtailing, came back onto the other shoulder, continued fishtailing, came back onto the inside shoulder. The camper overturned; it did strike a barrier guard rail,â?? said Iowa State Trooper Jim Karp.
The male driver was transported to Ottumwa Regional Hospital and the female right front passenger was as well. The conditions of the two are unknown at this time.
Trooper Karp wanted to remind people that if you are pulling a large camper to make sure you have control of your vehicle at all times. If you do go off onto the shoulder, donâ??t try to whip it back onto the roadway because then itâ??s going to start to lose control.
