Drought relief will soon be on the way for those who need it.
The passage of the latest Farm Bill is different from other farm bills in the past. This bill has a new Drought Assistance Payment Plan.
The plan will be available for producers who were greatly affected by the droughts of 2012 and 2013.
Farmers are encouraged to contact their local farm service agency and sign up.
"Sign up has already started and is running through January 1, 2015. We have a lot of time right now. Some of the rules and regulations are still trying to get figured out. But I would encourage any livestock producers to find out more about this," said Zac Erwin of the University of Missouri Extension.
The University of Missouri Extension are next putting together a Farm Bill Task Group. The group will be there to help farmers know how the program is going to work and see on how much they could get paid.
