A seatbelt may be the reason a northeast Missouri teen suffered only minor injuries following an early morning crash.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday in Putnam County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Madeline Pinson, 16, of Unionville, was driving on Highway 129 at Locust Trail, approximately four miles southeast of Unionville, when she traveled off the right side of the road.

Troopers said she overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road, causing her car to overturn. It then struck a fence before coming to rest on its wheels.

According to the crash report, Pinson suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville to be checked out.

Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt.
