Early morning police call in Ottumwa leads to arrest

A Milan, Mo., man has been arrested following an early morning police call in Ottumwa.

Just after 3:30 Sunday morning, Ottumwa police officers responded to The Elbow Room on East Main Street for a report of an argument. When they arrived, officers were informed an individual was inside the establishment who had flashed a weapon. Officers attempted to stop Raul Ortega III, 18, at which time he fled on foot.

After a short foot chase, Ortega was apprehended and found to be in possession of a .25 caliber handgun.

Ortega was arrested and charged with Carrying Weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts, a Class D felony, and Possession Under Legal Age.

Ortega was treated and released from Ottumwa Regional Health Center for injuries sustained as the result of being tackled. He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $7,000 bond.
