Eating pancakes for a good cause
The grills were going at 6 Saturday morning and the pancakes were being flipped at the annual Ottumwa Noon Lions Pancake Breakfast at the Jimmy Jones Shelter at the Greater Ottumwa Park.
From 6 a.m. until noon, people paid $6 for all the pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee they wanted.
Members of the organization said they usually raise between $700 and $1,000 each year.
â??Well considering how cold it is I think itâ??s been pretty fair. I think we've served right at 200 people this morning so not a record number but we'll make a little bit of money,â?? said Tom Stanek, Ottumwa Noon Lions member.
The Ottumwa Noon Lions Club is a civic organization that puts their emphasis on eyesight. The money raised from Saturday will go towards the Iowa Sight Conservation Foundation, Iowa Lions Eye Bank and eyeglasses for needy children just to name a few.
