The Eddyville-Blakesburg School District may soon be getting a little bigger.
The district is discussing the addition of Fremont Elementary School. The school is 12 miles away from the current district. It has 192 students from pre-k to 6th grade.
Opponents say that Fremont residents would lose their identity. But Superintendent Dr. Dean Cook says the two districts have a great relationship and that it makes sense.
"The committee voted to have Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. That to me seems logical and there was some other discussion. People want to maintain some of their identity."
Voters from both districts will be able to decide when it goes on the ballot in September. If it passes, the new district will be in place in July 2012.
