Itâ??s been years in the making and itâ??s finally coming to fruition
Wednesday morning at Eisenhower Elementary School in Ottumwa, construction officially began on what will be an almost mile-long walking trail that will loop around the pond.
Thanks to student fundraising, the last $6,000 for the project was raised.
During the school-year there is a student walking club that meets before school; they were limited to walking around the playground but now theyâ??ll have a new walking trail to walk on.
â??We also use this area for academic instructional activities. We've done writing projects out here, science projects and our ultimate goal is to have it be a community destination, some place that families can come, walk enjoy the wildlife that's in the pond and also just enjoy -- maybe a nice picnic here in the community,â?? said Deb Cook, Principal.
Cook said the trail is expected to be completed by mid next week.
