Eldon, Iowa death under investigation

UPDATE 8/12: The death of Darrell Teeter, 64, of Eldon, Iowa, has been ruled a homicide.

According to a press release from the Wapello County Sheriff's Office, the Office of the State Medical Examiner has certified the homicide after performing an autopsy Tuesday.

Investigators aren't saying yet how Teeter was killed.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab Team are assisting the Wapello County Sheriff's Office in the ongoing investigation.

The sheriff's office is requesting any and all information that the public might have regarding the death of Teeter.

UPDATE: The Wapello County Sheriff's Office said that Darrell Teeter was found dead this morning at his residence on Elm Street in Eldon. Officers responded to the scene just after seven this morning.

KTVO spoke to Ardath Teeter, the victim's mother. She said that Teeter was discovered after he failed to show up for a dialysis appointment. She told KTVO that her son's establishment had been robbed several times in the past few months. According to Teeter, thieves took both money and prescription drugs during the last robbery.

Law enforcement has not offered any specific information about the incident. A press release from the sheriff's department said that they don't expect to release any new information this evening.


UPDATE: Late Monday afternoon, the Wapello County Sheriff's Office released the identity of the victim.

Investigators said the man found dead inside the Main Street Bait Shop was Darrell Teeter, 64, of Eldon.

Teeter lived at the bait shop at 529 West Elm Street in Eldon.

Further details about the investigation are not being released at this time.


UPDATE: The Wapello County Sheriff's Office has told KTVO a man was found dead at the Main Street Bait Shop in Eldon, Iowa.

A spokesman said the death is considered "suspicious."

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is on the scene Monday afternoon assisting the sheriff's office with the case. Agents were seen taking pictures and beginning the process of collecting evidence.

One witness told KTVO that the inside of the bait shop looked to be ransacked, suggesting a possible robbery. That information hasn't been confirmed by Miller or any member of law enforcement.

A spokesman said, at this time, the death has not been ruled a murder.

The incident is believed to have occurred overnight.
