End childhood hunger in Adair County over the summer

The Food for Kids Program is about to be in session again. It is a free lunch program for children that will be held at four different Kirksville parks over the summer. Those parks are Brashear, PC Mills, Jaycee and Memorial. The program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
This program is a great way for children to meet other kids, but also to ensure that underprivileged children get at least one nutritious meal per day that they might not always have access to.
â??Our mission is to make sure that every child would have at least one meal a day if they didn't have access to food in their homes. We have a very high poverty rate in Adair County. It's about a quarter of our population and so housing, childcare, food and all those kinds of expenses add up and the hardest hit group is usually families with young children,â?? said Rebecca Zimmer. Food 4 Kids Coordinator.
