The Epic Iowa Road Trip launched Friday and kicked off its eight-day tour right here in Ottumwa.
The tour comprises of a special motorcoach traveling 2,100 miles across Iowa, hitting 60 destinations in 33 counties. The tour is a partnership between the Iowa Tourism Office and their three tourism locations across the state; the Central Iowa Tourism Region, Easter Iowa Tourism Association and Western Iowa Tourism Region.
"We asked them for some great ideas on how we could showcase Iowa," said Shawna Lode, of the Iowa Tourism Office. "One of those ideas was what has now become the Epic Iowa Road Trip, so we'll be on the road the next ten days telling people what they can see and do and enjoy in Iowa."
The Iowa Tourism Office asked for its industry partners across the state to submit invitations for stops. They were so impressed by Wapello County's proposal, they decided to begin the tour at Market on Main in Ottumwa.
The hope is that by the end of the tour, people are aware of all Iowa has to offer.
"Our goal is to help raise awareness of all the great things people and do in their own state, as well as folks that maybe are hearing about it in our surrounding states, help people as they plan perhaps their Iowa trip over the spring or summer season," said Ann Vogelbacher, Director of the Central Iowa Tourism Region.
After Market on Main, the tour made its way to the Gothic House in Eldon.
The bus will be making its way through the state until May 10. To view a complete list of stops, click here.
