Explanation for bright fireball in the sky

KTVO received numerous phone calls between 10:05 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Wednesday from viewers who saw a huge fireball in the skies over northeast Missouri.

Callers described it as a big red fireball with a blue or neon green tail that was visible for approximately 15 seconds.

The National Weather Service confirmed that it was a meteor that people saw moving across the dark sky.

KTVO received reported sightings from Novinger, Hurdland, Arbela, Brashear and beyond.
