One local hospital has entered its second century on a little bit of a roll.
The Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, fresh off celebrating its centennial just last year, was named one of the 100 best places to work in Iowa by the Des Moines Register this week.
Chief Executive Officer Deb Cardin said it wasn't so much the newspaper that gave the JCHC the award, rather it was the employees.
The hospital's 200 or so employees were asked to fill out a survey about the company and their place in it.
The staff gave their hospital high marks across the board, something that pleased but did not surprise Cardin. Cardin told KTVO that visitors can tell the hospital is something special from the moment they walk in the door.
â??They can feel the environment here its very friendly and family oriented and people care about each other, people care about the patients they care about the delivery of care,â?? Cardin said, â??they have pride in the organization and you can feel that.â??
While itâ??s certainly important that the staff is happy, itâ??s more important what that good feeling means for patients.
Cardin said research shows that happy employees mean better patient care.
