Members of Fairfield's Blue Zones have worked all winter to put together a Blue Print, or community wellness plan, for the town, and now, Fairfield is ready to officially kick off their Blue Zones initiative.
On Saturday, July 20, local businesses, grocery stores and more will host a variety of health-related panels and activities.
The support from the community on the project so far has been overwhelming, so now is the time to start the process of official Blue Zones designation.
"We have seven restaurants that will be working towards certification as a Blue Zones restaurant, we have two grocery stores, one of them has already completed, Hy-Vee, that will be working towards certification," said Mayor Ed Malloy. "We have 20 work/business locations, work forces that will be involved in that process as well, so getting all that underway on Saturday."
After Saturday, the coordination between businesses, work places, schools and the community will begin.
