Fairfield man pleads not guilty in death of father

Donald Dean Gridley is charged with involuntary manslaughter

A Fairfield, Iowa man accused of killing his father in a car accident has pleaded not guilty.

According to online court records, Donald Dean Gridley, 44, entered the amended plea on Monday

Gridley is facing charges of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, failure to maintain control, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to have a valid driver's license.

The charges stem from a December 2012 accident on Competine Road in rural Wapello County.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found the Gridley's pickup truck in the ditch and 65-year-old Patrick Clair Gridley severely injured on the passenger side of the vehicle. Donald Gridley was located at a nearby home attempting to get help.

Patrick Gridley was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The investigation into the crash determined that Donald Gridley had a blood alcohol level of .198 and that he and not Patrick Gridley had been driving the vehicle.

Court records don't indicate when Gridley is next scheduled to appear in court.
