Fairfield Parks and Rec project gaining momentum

Itâ??s an exciting time for the Fairfield Recreational Facilities Task Force, as they recently received a $25,000 check from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce to go towards the Rec. Centerâ??s pool and gym project.

This puts the project to $6.5 million out of the estimated $10 million project.

Members of the task force said they are happy with the support they are getting from the community and now funding for the project will be up for vote at the county level in early August.

â??We're confident we can move forward privately from there but we also need that million dollar vote which would be over 10 years for the county. That may sound like a lot of money but it's a $100,000 is essentially be taken out of the tax reduction related to the local option sales tax so it is not a new tax but it does have some implication for taxpayers,â?? said Daniel Breen, Fairfield Recreational Task Force member.

Breen said ideally, the outdoor pool would be open late next summer and the gymnasium in the fall.
